Rubesa: Rail Baltica project will be implemented sooner or later
Rail Baltica project will be implemented sooner or Latvia, said former CEO of RB Rail Baiba Rubesa in an interview to 900 seconds programme of LNT.
«It is important to understand that Rail Baltica, I think, is a project that will be implemented sooner or later, because it is necessary. […] Rail Baltica is a political project in the eyes of the European Union. It needs to be implemented both for economic and security reasons,» she said.
At the same time, she admits the project’s implementation’s terms are currently delayed, and some are delayed more than others. Nevertheless, the project will be implemented before 2030. «But this is possible under the condition that shareholders – three ministries in all three participating countries – not only speak of supporting Rail Baltica project but also do enough to prove their intentions,» said Rubesa.
She adds there may be a possibility of a criminal process being launched in relation to some procurement process of the project. «None of the present problems have reached a point to warrant a criminal process. […] We do try to overcome disputes to ensure the project advances forward. Myself and the company as a whole have had conflicts with Security Police and Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau,» said Rubesa.
On Thursday, 27 September, Baiba A. Rubesa, CEO and Chair of the Management Board of the Baltic State’s joint venture RB RAIL AS, submitted a resignation letter to the Supervisory Board of the joint venture, effective immediately.
