Police penalize Jurmala mayor for storing illegal drugs
Latvia’s State Police have applied a fine of EUR 100 to Jurmala Mayor Gatis Truksnis for storing illegal narcotics, as reported by Nekā personīga programme of LTV.
According to information reported by the programme, police found a syringe with traces of cocaine and the mayor’s
DNA. The item in question was confiscated during the search conducted by Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau as part of the criminal process regarding possible illegal financing of political parties For Latvia from the Heart and Union of Greens and Farmers.
DNA analysis confirmed that the DNA traces found on the syringe belong to Truksnis. Police have penalized him in accordance with Section 46 of the Code of Administrative Violations for storage of illegal narcotics, as reported by Nekā personīga.
Jurmala City Council has not provided the programme with any comments on the matter.
The opposition of Jurmala City Council intends to request dismissal for Jurmala Mayor Gatis Truksnis because of the information regarding the syringe found during a search by Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau.
Rolands Parasigs-Parasiņš, a deputy from National Alliance «All for Latvia!» – «For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK», says that talks with opposition parties have commenced, and it is possible that an extraordinary meeting will be organized 1 October. During this meeting, parties will voice distrust to the mayor. He also said the fine applied by police – EUR 100 – is insignificant, because ‘harsher penalties are applied for smoking weed’.
