Unem­ploy­ment level in Latvia was 6.4% at the end of 2018

At the end of 2018 the reg­is­tered unem­ploy­ment level in Latvia was 6.4% of the to­tal num­ber of eco­nom­i­cally ac­tive pop­u­la­tion, which is 0.2 per­cent­age points more than a month prior and 0.4% less than at the end of 2017, ac­cord­ing to in­for­ma­tion from the State Em­ploy­ment Agency.

At the end of 2018 there were 59,588 un­em­ployed peo­ple reg­is­tered with SEA, which is 2,133 more peo­ple than a month prior and 3,533 less than there were at the end of 2017.

The low­est reg­is­tered unem­ploy­ment level at the end of 2018 was reg­is­tered in Riga re­gion – 4.2%, which is 0.1 per­cent­age points less when com­pared to the end of 2017, whereas the high­est unem­ploy­ment level was reg­is­tered in Lat­gale – 14.7%, which is 1.1 per­cent­age points less.

Unem­ploy­ment level in Zem­gale was 6.2% at the end of 2018 (6.5% at the end of 2017). Unem­ploy­ment in Vidzeme was 6.4% (7.5%), whereas unem­ploy­ment level in Kurzeme was 7.5% (7.7%). SEA data shows that Riga’s level of reg­is­tered unem­ploy­ment at the end of 2018 was 3.9%, which is 0.1 per­cent­age points less than a year prior.

At the end of 2017 the level of reg­is­tered unem­ploy­ment was 6.8% of eco­nom­i­cally ac­tive pop­u­la­tion.
