Two Rus­sian sub­marines de­tected near Lat­vian wa­ters

Two Rus­sian sub­marines were de­tected near Lat­vian wa­ters, ac­cord­ing to the in­for­ma­tion pub­lished by the Na­tional Armed Forces. On Mon­day, April 17, 5.5 nau­ti­cal miles from Lat­vian ter­ri­to­rial wa­ters, two Rus­sian BS Kilo class sub­marines were de­tected. As re­ported, last year Rus­sian mil­i­tary air­craft and ships were spot­ted near Latvia’s border over 209 times, which is much more than a year ago.

Pro­vid­ing sup­port to strength­en­ing of NATO pres­ence in the eastern part of the al­liance, the Ger­man Air Force has re­peat­edly de­ployed the De­ploy­able Con­trol and Re­port­ing Cen­tre (DCRC) Liel­varde Air Force Base in cen­tral Latvia, and it will re­main there for the com­ing three months, the Lat­vian De­fense Min­istry re­ported.
