A couple of months ago the Apple Store began selling a smart jump-rope. Now, put aside your scepticism of whether a skipping rope should even be given ‘brains’ because we assure you Tangram’s new product is worth a closer look, even if it is considerably more expensive than the ordinary sort. What’s so special about it then? Firstly, the Tangram Factory Smart Rope was developed by one of the vendors that helped create Samsung’s Smart TV experience, and they’ve done their homework, producing a well-studied 90 USD product that comes in a number of different finishes, including chrome, gold, as well as black and white metal. We love how each handle contains two sets of ball bearings and a rope anchoring that’s been off-set at a 45-degree angle to make sure you achieve the smoothest and most natural swing possible. Of course, given the smart moniker, there are also a number of magnetic sensors in the handles, which keep track of your every jump and relay this information to your phone via a Smart Gym app. But there’s also a cluster of 23 LED lights on the rope, which come to life as you swing, thereby creating a floating head-up-display. It’s a cool feature and helps make the rope more desirable.
