Off the Beaten Path
The 5,400 USD Hydrofoiler XE-1 by Manta5 is the world’s first commercially viable hydrofoil bicycle. That means all you have to do is give it enough forward momentum and it’ll lift and rise to plane over even the choppiest of seas. It took five years to develop the lightweight sea-bike, which is made from aircraft grade aluminium and carbon fibre, but according to the marketing manager, Louis Wilks, initial tests revealed that only the most athletic users were able to manually launch the bike from a submerged state. Their solution was to add a waterproof electric motor that helps the rider to travel at speeds of up to 20 km/h. However, should you rather, you can always switch it off.
