Though it’s nowhere near as time consuming as maintaining a boat or a house, being the proud owner of a high-end timepiece does still come with certain responsibilities and these were discussed at an Horological Forum called ‘The Aftermath of a Purchase’. The topic ruffled the feathers of a panel that included Gianfranco Ritschel from the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, who disclosed his conviction that after-sales must be an integral part of the watch experience. Later the panel revealed a unanimity in suggesting all watches should be taken back to their manufacturers every two years for a check-up, polish, clean and some fresh lubes.
