This dessert is best when as­sem­bled just be­fore serv­ing. bake the cake up to one day ahead of time. split the cake into two lay­ers af­ter it is cooled and store in air tight con­tainer at room tem­per­a­ture. Toss the sliced berries with the pow­dered su­gar if de­sired and re­frig­er­ate un­til ready to use. whip up the whipped cream right be­fore as­sem­bling and serve.
