Budding rapper drops mixtape
we are in the world but not of it. So these are some of the issues I deal with in the mixtape.”
He said the mixtape was a “warm up” project to test the waters ahead of the launch of his debut album which would be released “soon”.
“I have used these mixtapes to gather the confidence and skills for launching a debut album in the not too distant future. Following the release of Welcome to Lefatse, I feel confident enough to launch my debut album and also perform in Lesotho and beyond,” Trer said.
When asked about the difference between a mixtape and an album, he said: “The real difference between mixtapes and albums are the purpose of each. Mixtapes are a way for artists to establish their sound, build a fan base, solidify their reputation, and promote a forthcoming album. On the other hand, an album is a way for an artist to generate money and cater to an already established fan base.
“I think my decision to start off with mixtapes was wise since it is an effective way for a rap artist to gain the exposure and visibility needed to launch their career.”
Drawing inspiration from such international Christian rappers as Lecrae and Da’ T.R.U.T.H., Welcome to Lefatse delves in the myriad of challenges young believers face, while also trying to keep a positive outlook throughout the compilation. The verses are often packed full of lyrical content however with references to scripture over some chilled hip-hop beats.
In It’s Not Over Trer implores Christians and nonbelievers alike not to throw in the towel when life does not take the direction they had planned or expected. Suicide, the rapper chants in a captivating style, is not an option since Jesus is the answer. In the song Prodigal Son, he notes that while young people can lose their way, God welcomes them to the fold when they decide to repent.
Dreams inspires the discouraged to continue to aim for their aspirations and not justify their failures with excuses.
Trer added that fans keen on getting their hands on the mixtape can contact him through his Facebook page.
