Hamilton
We appreciate the Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono Limited Edition for the sheer brilliance of the dri angle calculator on a watch.
2018 marks a centenary of Hamilton “timing the skies” as the brand calls it. Most of its releases this year tie in with the anniversary but the Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono takes the cake. To put it simply, the dri angle calculator helps to define how many degrees a plane needs to be corrected if it’s caught in a crosswind situation. The Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono has two crowns at two and four o’clock, which control the lower and upper bezel respectively allowing you to find said angle.
The real deal of the watch for the folk who aren’t crazy enough to look at their wrists while flying a plane, is that it’s the first ETA Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement to be equipped with a silicon hairspring, increasing its anti-magnetic resistance. We’re expecting to see more of the Swatch Group chronographs following this pa ern fu her down the line. Over the last couple of years, Corum has introduced plenty of changes in its collections but none has been as popular as the resurgence of the Bubble range. Their decision to play with different a styles and imagery on the magnified dials has a racted a younger crowd who may not care as much about the inner workings of a watch. This year, however, Corum introduced a Bubble that makes watch geeks everywhere stand up and take notice. The new Bubble 47 Swoosh (an interesting name) displays a central tourbillon with rotating indicators to tell the hours and minutes on peripheral discs.
The watch is an absolute looker with the centrallypositioned complication. Corum has managed to achieve the technical feat of arranging said tourbillon in such a way that it’s hidden. So it’s still a playful Bubble, keeping to the collection’s ethos. The watch comes in a titanium case with either a synthetic strap with rubber lining (pictured) or on a titanium Milanese-style bracelet. Another variant sees the case finished in a black PVDcoated titanium case with a rose gold bezel and crown.
