CAPTAIN FANTASTIC (2016)
Captain Fantastic tells the story of Ben Cash (Viggo Mortensen) and his family, who chooses to live deep in the wilderness of Washington state. Isolated from the outside world, Ben and Leslie (Trin Miller) devote themselves to raise their kids̶educating them to think critically, guiding them in the wild without technology and demonstrating the beauty of co-existing with nature. When Leslie dies suddenly, Ben must take his sheltered children into society for the first time. While challenging society’s perception of family, Captain Fantastic achieves an admirable task in exploring the merits of homeschooling and parental rights. Through its thought provoking themes and a stellar performance from Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic is a compelling piece of drama that’s bound to resonate deeply with a lot of families.
Although the food delivery concept had already been established with a number of technological players here, Weins and his partners set out to chart a new direction for dahmakan. Most were third party applications, leveraging off existing restaurants, and charging a delivery fee for the service. dahmakan set out on their own approach by preparing the food themselves.
“We saw this amazing future where you could just push a button to get food made by the best chefs with fresh ingredients. This wasn’t offered in the marketplace yet and this is what we wanted to build,” Weins enthused. “However the only way we would be able to do this was to change the business model. We had to be more than just a connector between the restaurant and customer but a producer and controller of the entire chain.”
In order to see the vision through, Weins and his partners set out to engage the expertise of professional gourmet chefs. “We got several chefs from 5-star hotels come in to develop recipes for the kitchen. We looked to combine their expertise with a centralised production and also utilise technologies and developments of the last five years like automation and artificial intelligence to predict demand.”

Moving Up The Food Chain
The business model proved viable for dahmakan as it afforded them better control over food quality, pricing and delivery. Although starting small by just delivering several meals a day in the beginning, dahmakan now delivers over a few thousand meals a day. “We started on a really small scale and, early on, we even went out and bought ingredients ourselves from supermarkets, explains Weins.
“Over time, we began to streamline the operations by sourcing ingredients from the wholesaler and now some of it even directly from the farms themselves. This way we not only get better prices for our ingredients but also better quality, which we channel towards our customers better value, quality
