Patek philippe
The Nautilus Perpetual Calendar as Patek Philippe’s highlight for Baselworld 2018 came as no surprise. It was about time that the brand debuted a grande complication in one of its most popular ranges. We’ve seen the Nautilus with travel time chronographs, moonphases and an annual calendar so it only made sense that the perpetual calendar complication should appear soon.
We know it may sound like hyperbole but the Nautilus Perpetual Calendar ref. 5740/1G is a dream. It’s hard not to describe it as such when the watch marries two of the brand’s most iconic elements – a design that cannot be replicated and a complication that Patek Philippe has mastered.
There are small subtleties on the watch as well with the correctors for the complication placed symmetrically on the lugs and on one side of the case. Of course, it’s impo ant to remember what a watch like the ref. 5740/1G will cost. In full 18k white gold, the going price is just a li le south of US$120,000. The aspirational angle is why Patek Philippe will forever stand tall as a giant in the world of watches.
