Mido

This year happens to be Mido’s 100th but unlike the conventional practice of marking the century, the brand created a watch for its 200th anniversary. As pa of a trilogy that pays tribute to different moments of Mido’s timeline – 1918, 2018 and 2218 – the Baroncelli 2118 may be a slightly shallow look at 100 years from now (we’re sure new materials will be found and designs like this considered “classic”) but at least Mido is showing how it looks forward and not back to the past, the way the trends have dictated these last few years.

The new Tradition 1965 XL Auto is inspired by a watch from Rado’s archives, made in the ‘60s with a retro-futuristic look that is anything but your usual classic. We’re big fans of the brushed blue dial and odd rectangular indices, elements that stick out like a sore thumb. Like Mido’s decision to include a watch celebrating the brand’s future, we feel the need to applaud Rado for going with the flow, but switching it up.
