FIRST FAMILY
Omega pays tribute to its foremost and longest-running collection, the Seamaster
2018 HOLDS EXTRA-SPECIAL meaning for Omega, as it marks 70 years since the inauguration of the manufacture’s first family of timepieces, the underwater icon Seamaster. This coincides with the 25th anniversary of one of Seamaster’s more high-profile series thanks to its popular association with only cinema’s most famous secret agent of all time, James Bond, the Seamaster Diver 300m.
Inspired by the double celebration, Omega dedicates two new releases to the Seamaster̶ one harks back to the original 1948 designs, the other brings us to the next evolution of the underwater icon in bold, new style.
Seamaster 1948 Limited Editions
Between 1940 and 1945, Omega supplied over 110,000 timepieces to the British Ministry of Defence. The watches were highly valued by British airmen and sailors for their water-resistance and reliability in combat. Following the war, in response to the demand for a timepiece with the same robust and reliable performance, only more aesthetically suited to civilian life, Omega introduced the Seamaster in 1948. Elegant, practical and enhanced with greater waterresistance thanks to the novel use of the O-ring gasket technology, the original Seamaster demonstrated Omega’s responsible development of wartime technology.
In remembrance of this wonderful time of peace and innovation, Omega revisited the original timepieces and came up with two new limited editions for the 70th anniversary celebration of the Seamaster ‒ the Seamaster 1948 Small Seconds and Seamaster 1948 Central Second. While both watches stay true to the original post-war designs, their source of power is very much a product of the 21st-century. Driven by Master Chronometer movements 8804 and 8806, respectively, these watches come tried, tested and certified to meet the industry’s highest level of precision, performance and endurance.
Understated and dapper, both watches come in stainless steel with polished bezel, featuring an opaline silvery domed dial with slender 18k white gold hands. The Small Seconds model includes a small seconds indication at 6 o’clock
