AF­TER NIXON, Trump is prob­a­bly the most un­pop­u­lar US pres­i­dent in re­cent his­tory. With his term marred by a string of scan­dals and con­tro­ver­sies, Trump has com­pro­mised the United States’ stand­ing ‒ and con­fi­dence in its lead­er­ship ‒ on the in­ter­na­tional stage. In the wake of th­ese changes, coun­tries and blocs have had to re­assess their do­mes­tic and for­eign poli­cies, while deal­ing with the un­cer­tainty that comes with hav­ing a 72-year-old baby at the helm of the free world.

We may be look­ing at the be­gin­ning of the end. In what was lit­er­ally a one-two punch for Trump, his for­mer long­time at­tor­ney Michael Co­hen and one-time cam­paign chair­man Paul Manafort were sep­a­rately found guilty of eight crimes each, just min­utes apart, in two sep­a­rate tri­als. The stage is set for a pos­si­ble im­peach­ment of Trump, with all the far-reach­ing con­se­quences this en­tails. AM
