AugustMan (Malaysia)

BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS

-

AS WE LAUNCH the second edition of the August Man Run in April, this time as an evening event, with a target of 4,000 participants to meet, we are inspired by the historic boom and upward trend in the health and fitness industry, which is expected to only become bigger in 2019. It’s good to know that modern society is increasingly embracing an active lifestyle and physical undertakings.

The expanding fitness culture has given rise to numerous innovations and positive changes across the world, from wearable technology such as smartwatch and fitness trackers, to athleisure wear, road running, outdoor adventures, group and circuit training of every kind and personal training as a career, allowing for a more productive, healthy and connected way of living.

While the August Man Run is kept to 6km and 12km, many today have progressed to much more intense activities, among which are combat sports, the most popular being mixed martial arts (MMA), boxing, kick-boxing, Muay Thai and more. As it stands now, Malaysia is in a leading position with several champs of her own.

As a special tribute, we dedicate our April issue to individuals who are making headway in the world of combat sports with real blood, sweat and tears, and unwavering fighting spirit. In addition, we would like to direct your attention to rising star Fadlan Hazim, who is slated to star in the upcoming MMA film Sangkar, alongside acting heavyweights Zul Ariffin and Remy Ishak. We are excited to see how he will be holding his own in the movie. Lastly, we leave you with our cover star, who happens to be a living legend and one of 15 people, not to mention the first black man, to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, John Legend.

Enjoy,
