SOPHIE KLOCK
Sophie Klock, a young photographer based in Berlin, works with selfportraiture and performance. Her subjects are largely based on the inclusion of members of communities she becomes a part of, as she believes in finding homes in the people she meets.
Here, she shares her journey through Japan, where she met some of the people she truly connected with. Sophie’s personal experiences also contributed to her new book, Eight Visits, which discusses what it means to be young in a sparkling, busy city such as Tokyo. Her aim was not to conform to the standards of stereotypical depictions of Japan, but to have a broader vision and look at the overall picture of the country.
Sophie admits that she arrived in Japan with her own perspective but eventually understood the country better and developed a sense of home through the people she met. These same people are part of the new generation who will shape the future of the nation.
