MONTBLANC

-

Montblanc may be erroneously opined to be a pen maker, but in Minerva which has been integrated into Montblanc, the brand has a foundation as sound as any bona fide watchmaker’s. Limited to 100 pieces, the 1858 Split Second Chronograph traces its origins to Minerva’s 44mm historical mono-pusher chronograph. Beating the calibre 17/29, the special piece from the 1930s was known for its distinctive dial comprising a snail-shaped tachymeter scale in the centre and a telemeter scale on the internal flange. Aesthetics aside, the current dial has all the luxury hallmarks. It is crafted from solid gold, adorned with a gradated blue grand feu enamel, and injected with orange and white elements, prior to being encased in 44mm grade-5 titanium. At its heart is the in-house MB M16.31 movement containing two column wheels, horizontal coupling and a power reserve of 50 hours.
