OUVERTURE OF SOMETHING THAT NEVER ENDED
“What life do clothes get when they stop walking down the catwalk? What kind of stories can they draw in the space of existence? What happens to them when the runway spotlights fade out? These are the questions that come to my mind in a present that is uncertain, but pregnant with premonitions.”
“Precious and crucial questions, urging me to reframe the creative horizons of my work and to reconfigure the meaning of my doing. Above all, they push me towards a radical experimentation able to pursue new languages and uncommon expressive platforms. Following this impetus, I decided to make an episodic film. It was a reckless leap for me, though necessary. Because I needed a vehicle to inject myself into life, to depict it from the inside,” says Alessandro Michele.
Through the seven-episode miniseries opposing the traditional 10-20 minute runway show, streamed on a dedicated site dubbed GucciFest, Alessandro amidst COVID-19 restrictions managed to engage a village of artistic collaborations to draw our attention to the 99 look collection through visual storytelling and series of retro polaroid images. The looks continues his nostalgia love affair and inspiration reminiscent of the psychedelic sixties with bold patterns, prints and textures accessorized in sometimes comedic excess or barely there; whilst the images stare blankly in return.
Featuring the cameos from Harry Styles, Bille Eilish, Florence Welch in the Italian house’s ‘Ouverture Of Something That Never Ended’ films, co-directed by Gus Van Sant.
