SPOTLIGHT ON THE SUBTLETY
The Spring/Summer 2021 collection created by Véronique Nichanian is presented in an unprecedented performance designed with the artistic collaboration of Cyril Teste. Expressing lightness, simplicity and nonchalance, its clean silhouettes create a timelessly casual look. In a carefree crossover, jackets of various kinds borrow stripes and suppleness from shirts. To return the favour, shirts adopt a jacket-like volume. Shirt stripes gain linings, a double front and inserts.
For an easy summer, materials are fresh and light matching the refreshing colour palette of varying hues of blues, neutrals and pops of neon. Leathers are reinvented with finesse; deerskin reveals its sensuality and technical calfskin its versatility. Leather-accented items, including watches, necklaces and duffel bags, were even more minimal than the subtly stylish garments.
Collarless Harrington jackets, ribbed sweaters and striped layers in various hues take the forefront as, under the camera lens, the details steal the limelight. Pockets, accessories and patterns are front and centre. This motif was driven home by drawstring slacks, rolled shirts, thoughtlessly popped collars and Hermès’ signature leather belt, tucked into itself to allow the tail to fly free. Illustrative abstract patterns grace shirts cut with just enough slouch to billow out from the elasticated waistbands they were tucked into.
In summary of Hermès latest collection, the mash-up of unexpected fluorescent colours against an overall neutral to dark colour palette, clean silhouettes, elastic-waist pants, and relaxed blousons with removable collars subverts any sense of stiffness for the casual, carefree individual.
