THE WORLD EARTH DAY ISSUE
COVID-19 HAS dealt humankind the hardest blow. At the same time, it has presented what seemed to be a period of relief and recovery for the environment. A significant drop in human activities due to movement restrictions made the air noticeably clearer and our surroundings, both in urban and suburban areas, much cleaner, with a lot less noise pollution. There were even reports of previously murky rivers clearing up.
We have decided to highlight these phenomena in our April issue, in celebration of World Earth Day. The special report is accompanied by two photo stories, thanks to the contribution of documentary photographer Annice Lyn and conservation photographer Mahesh Kulkarni, which bring to light issues of human-wildlife conflict and the negative impact on animals and indigenous communities as a result of human activities and the transformation of land use. Hopefully, this will inspire us to reevaluate our role and responsibilities towards the environment.
At the same time, we’ve looked to filmmaker Zack Snyder for inspiration on redemption and perseverance. In seeing his vision through and restoring Justice League to its rightful glory with his epic “Snyder cut”, the man has turned into a real-life hero to one of comic history’s most important superhero teams.
Enjoy!
