POSITIVE CHANGE

- Kc Yap EDITOR kc.yap@burda.com.my

MODERN SOCIETY WAS first awakened to a climate crisis in 1992 by Nobel Prize recipient Henry W. Kendall when he published the first World Scientists’ Warning to Humanity letter, signed by 1,700 leading scientists across the world. Warning about the severe plight of the environment and an impending doom for life on Earth, Kendall cautioned, “Human beings and the natural world are on a collision course,” and urged the better use of resources, control of human population and elimination of poverty.

In 2019, over 11,000 scientists published a third letter, unanimously declaring a climate emergency and calling for a stop to overconsumption. They added in an update in 2021 the need for profound changes in human behaviour and responsible practices across all forms of human activity.

As people become more and more aware of the emergency and the impact of their day-to-day actions, our September 2021 issue highlights a group of passionate Malaysians who have emerged with business models and products dedicated to ethical and sustainable practices, led by our cover star, actor Lawrence Wong, who recently ushered in the latest “holy grail” in skin care with his own brand of botanical and sustainably-sourced products.

In addition, we are pleased to present our 10th edition of MVMT as your 2021 guide to the latest novelties and happenings in the world of fine watchmaking, starring surfing champion Kai Lenny alongside his fellow TAG Heuer ambassadors in the new Aquaracer Professional 300 campaign, designed to inspire you to pursue #BeyondTheEdge.

Stay safe and enjoy!
