THE BIRTHDAY BASH

Gucci

-

After confirming the rumours that two of the most well known brands would be having a joint project together, creative director Alessandro Michele launched Gucci’s Fall Winter 2021 collection which is also known as the 100th anniversary collection titled Aria̶by unveiling a number of looks bearing the iconic Balenciaga logo. However, the Italian designer does not consider this a collaboration, instead it is a ‘hacking’ of Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia’s ‘nonconformist rigor’, or at least according to the press release. It was showcased through a 15-minute clip, with models walking down the aisle decked out in pieces from the newest collection ranging from a series of kinky leather harnesses, monogram riding boots, leather jodhpurs, luxe jockey helmets and whips̶all of which paid homage to Gucci’s equestrian codes. Besides that, there were also the Balenciaga ‘hacked’ pieces. An array of blazers, tailored with sharp shoulders and a nipped waist were emblazoned with the Balenciaga logo. While another that’s similarly tailored except longer, is mashed up Gucci’s double-G monogram with Balenciaga branding. Another model was spotted wearing a hefty chain necklace that spelled out ‘BALENCIAGA’ in gold charm letters where the ‘G’ was replaced with Gucci’s interlocking G logo.
