STEP INSIDE LA GRECA

Versace

-

For Fall Winter 2021, Versace has launched a new, well, upgraded monogram. Named La Greca, it’s a motif that we’ve recognised the Italian luxury fashion brand for but the reinvented motif takes on the heritage Greek Key pattern and turns it into a more modern, geometric variation that would supposedly be timely and relevant to today’s fashion landscape. Though the collection was revealed behind closed doors, the digital launch was enough to cause a huge buzz amongst fans. In the film Versace released, La Greca had been blown up into a massive wooden structure that framed a runway-style show, similar to a gigantic three-dimensional maze. There, models strutted through monograms oozing with charisma and confidence, wearing monogram clothes, carrying monogram bags, and accessorising with monogram jewelry. Men’s cuts are slim and refined with a twist. The tailoring hugs the body with sensual intimacy. The motif was featured in different ways from all-over jacquard suits sometimes mixed with lurex thread, to small rubber patches on the chest like football badges̶the fabrics jolted from shiny vinyl to matte wool. The collection has also introduced a graffiti Medusa smiley that champions the brand’s sense of humor and rebellious character. Considered as a symbol of celebration and freedom, it is framed by the La Greca borders and appears on foulards as well as the men’s outerwear.
