A BANYAN TREE SPROUTS IN BALI

-

Opening in December 2021 in Ubud is a new Banyan Tree property. Informed by a pandemic era need for safe havens, the new resort is creating immersive experiences combining deep nature and sustainable design. Pioneering a “no walls, no doors” concept, Buahan ‒ a Banyan Tree Escape, is an invitation into a different way of being.

At its heart are the Open Kitchen and Living Room. Both the dining and lounge spaces have been created to evoke a sense of community. Guests are invited to learn how the resort reinvents the basics of food and drink through its zero-waste farm-to-table concept, local sourcing philosophy and heritage techniques. The resort also celebrates unconventional craft forms, from its sonic branding approach with Singapore-based creative studio Parable, to using re-purposed Ulin ‘iron’ wood from boat jetties. The unique décor features gand-carved headboards, hand-crafted copper bathtubs and natural dye soft furnishings.

Situated amid rice fields and rainforest, and in close proximity to the Ayung River and waterfall, the resort offers 16 balés (villas), all designed to blend spacious indoor-outdoor living areas with 180-degree panoramic views. Guests get to enjoy the sounds of nature through a bold taste of ‘The Naked Experience’ where only a thin veil separates them from nature. If you can be lured out of the beautiful balés, there are secret Hideaway Spots scattered around the resort, offering the chance to be at one with nature through meditation, reading, or simply taking a moment to pause and unwind.
