STARTING 2022 WITH A BANG

- EDITOR kc.yap@burda.com.my Kc Yap

“AND JUST LIKE THAT,” as Carrie Bradshaw would say, the pandemic has robbed us of two years of freedom and life. On top of that, Malaysia was recently struck by torrential downpours and floods. Providing us with a long, hard look at the plight of fellow countrymen, our Men of the Year award-recipient and @documentingkuala photographer Farhan Akmal took the initiative to go on the scene and capture the damages caused by the record-high precipitations, as seen in his exclusive photo essay in this issue of Augustman Malaysia.

That said, the unfortunate events of 2020 ‒ 2021 have also fasttracked digital transformation, cast a whole new light on sustainability, and given us a newfound respect and appreciation for life and nature.

Charles Kenny of Foreign Policy has reported that 2022 is on track to register the largest increase in global electricity generation from renewables ever, with the world’s biggest solar farm scheduled to be operational in Abu Dhabi. He also shared that the Year of the Tiger will mark the completion of TX2, a 10-year programme to double the global tiger population involving 13 Asian countries.

Highlighting the impact of the programme with a positive outlook, the director of technology and development and senior fellow at the Center for Global Development said, “While global biodiversity is still under threat and remains inadequately protected, the tiger program is a sign we’re getting better at saving species in a way that allows coexistence and development.”

In the spirit of positive change and outlook, we have put together a special feature on first-of-its-kind innovations, practices and new businesses and policies that are ushering Malaysia into a new, exciting territory.

To shake us up from the doldrums of the past two years and kick off 2022 with a bang, we ceased a golden opportunity to collaborate with Louis Vuitton and now present you with our biggest cover story yet, featuring the world’s biggest pop phenomenon presently, BTS, with over 30 pages of exclusive visuals and individual interviews of each member of the multiple award-winning group.

We wish all our readers, clients, collaborators, partners, contributors, peers and especially the legions of ARMY a great year ahead and Big-Time Succes!
