RETURN TO THE RUNWAY
For Salvatore Ferragamo, spring/summer 2022 is the first time the house hosted a physical show since the pandemic following the exit of former creative director Paul Andres. Undergoing a major structural transition, the Italian Maison debuts a collection that’s safe but well-crafted, diving deep into the brand’s extensive archive for inspiration. Ferragamo tackles the future by presenting its latest collection with a renewed appreciation for the fundamental formula of the house. Aesthetically, the silhouettes draw inspiration from a material mid-century mix of 1960s and 1970s cinema and sensually soignée liberation, as well as the functionality of workwear. A new men’s sandal is inspired by an archive Ferragamo sketch of a singlestrapped architecturally soaring shoe shape, originally envisioned for women. The classic Tramezza shoe construction is reinvented through subtraction in a deformalised, super-soft loafer.
