THE LONGINES WEEMS SIDEREAL TIME (1937), PERSONAL WATCH OF AMY JOHNSON

-

Longines added recently to its collection a watch belonging to Amy Johnson, one of the most active pioneers of her time. Some of her exploits include being the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930. She took off from Croydon (near London) and landed in Darwin 19 days later, having covered a distance of 11,000 miles. The Longines Weems Sidereal Time from 1937 is a large pilot navigation watch (47mm) with an adjustable rotating inner dial to synchronise the second hand to a radio time signal. This timepiece is indicating sidereal time where a day is 23hrs, 56min and 4sec long. Sidereal time is used for astronavigation.
