A HOMAGE TO THE BEGINNING

For the Dior Winter 2022 - 2023 collection, Creative Director Kim Jones narrates a conversation with Monsieur Dior by celebrating and revisiting the unique heritage with modernity, reflections of the movement of time, linking the House’s past and future. He looked to Paris in all its history and glamorous glory for the background and with this show, he also built a life-size copy of Pont Alexandre III in a tent on Place de la Concorde as the set. With a total of 49 looks, the collection was both historically referential and contemporary. It is the perfect balance between old and new while looking back to some of the House’s most famous looks while taking it to the present day styles.

“I wanted to immerse myself in the archives, in the purity of the beginnings of the House, in its original impetus. We looked at the first collections and focused on the architecture, using these elements, and transforming them almost instinctively into modern masculine pieces, always with this joie de vivre that is at the heart of Christian Dior’s creations”, Kim Jones explains in the show’s press release.

In the collection, we can find the legendary ‘bar’ jacket, available in masculine versions or in long elegant coats, and some delicate floral embroideries ornamenting a shirt or jackets’ sleeves inspired by the archives. Not to mention the patterns and symbols dear to Jones, such as the star, the rose, the canework̶taken from the back of Monsieur Dior’s neo-Louis XVI medallion armchair.
