Sorry, but it’s time to get ready for winter

Cycling Plus (Malaysia) - - WORKSHOP / TRAINING CAMP -

With the number of dry rides reducing, it’s time to winterise your bike. Check your drivetrain and pad wear. Are you happy to head into winter with them in their current condition? Maybe invest in some heavier, more puncture -resistant tyres than your summer lightweight affairs. Stops for mechanicals during the summer are unpleasant enough, without the added ‘bonus’ of inclement weather to factor in.

MAYBE INVEST IN SOME HEAVIER, MORE PUNCTURERESISTANT TYRES THIS MONTH

Have a look over your bike and see which mudguards it will take. Yes, they ruin the aesthetic, but that outlook is far from practical, and it’s also fairly antisocial. The worst feeling on a normal ride is a soggy posterior, but riding in the wet behind someone without mudguards? Unless it’s in a race, I wouldn’t recommend it. Even with very little clearance, there are solutions available.
