Get Drenched
Put your mattifiers away – glossy, wet look skin and hair rained down on the runways
Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty,” said one Derek Zoolander, a slice of wisdom at its peak relevance in the age of K-Beauty. At the S/S ’17 runway shows, hair and makeup artists took it about five steps further, slathering, soaking, and otherwise coaxing moisture into both locks and skin. From wet braids at Simone Rocha to dewy skin at Marni, this is a look that celebrates getting caught in the rain, or, in the case of the vaseline-covered, PornHubpartnered Hood By Air show, a different sort of carefree, fun activity. Backstage artists used face glosses and pro-kit shine mediums for reflective complexions, but hair took multiple routes to shine city. A gel-oil was used at Hood By Air, generous amounts of hair cream and blow-dry gel at Altuzzara and straight-up gel at Givenchy, where Guido Palau’s army created sculptured, shiny helmet heads. This was achieved by combing gel from the crown to tips of models’ damp hair and pulling it back into a youthful, yet classic chignon. More gel was added to form the face-framing waves, then even more to seal in the style. The final touch: spritzes of Redken Diamond Oil Mist for vinyl perfection. Glossy hair and skin met on the Ursula Andresstypes at Balmain, where Sam McKnight’s deep side parted beach babe hair gleamed alongside Tom Pecheux’s polished cheekbones, lips and brows.
