Introducing Petrosains, The Discovery Centre!
Take a trip in a cavernous oil-drop ride. Meet a singing dinosaur. Pretend to be Lewis Hamilton for a day and maneuver around the famed Sepang track in a Formula One simulator or simply slide down an emergency chute at an actual oil platform. These are among the many fun-filled and exciting activities aimed at creating wonder while sparking the interest in science, at Petrosains, The Discovery Centre.
Located within the iconic PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the journey to Petrosains begins with the DARK RIDE. Shaped like an oil drop, the ride takes you through a dark and tranquil environment that features Malaysia’s national treasures and ends with an audio visual presentation of a present-day Malaysia. Visitors can then explore the 7,000 square metre centre, featuring countless unique exhibits which you can touch, feel and play with for a more hands-on learning experience.
Among the exhibition highlights is the GEOTIME DIORAMA, which features an animatronic singing T-Rex, an erupting volcano and plenty of interesting displays explaining about geology and the formation of oil deposits. Visitors eager to experience the working and living conditions of the crew on board an offshore oil rig, can explore the OIL PLATFORM exhibition area, which is built to the scale of an actual oil rig. Other exhibit areas include SPACE, SPEED and SPARKS.
Aside from the interactive exhibits, visitors are also treated to live science shows, mini science demonstrations and science busking based on thematic science campaigns for a more constructive learning experience.
Programs and activities begin at pre-school and primary level with Petrosains Creative Science for Schools and Petrosains Tinkering workshops, where students can participate in fun hands-on activities and learn the science behind them.
At the secondary level, Petrosains introduces outreach programmes to encourage self-expression and creative thinking through participation in the award-winning Petrosains Science Show Competition.
Petrosains’ award winning Volunteer Scheme is also another initiative to sustain the interest and provide a learning platform for young Malaysians in Science.
Meanwhile, the Petrosains Science Festival is a week-long festival which pools the government, the corporates, industry, formal and informal learning institutions, and the public to come together to celebrate science in the community.
As an informal science institution, Petrosains is always committed to provide a fun and interactive platform to nurture curiosity and spark the love for science for the young and old alike. For more information on its offerings, please log on
