On transitioning to an organic-based lifestyle

“It definitely took time. Even while I was studying for my Naturopathic degree, I was still in a stage of transitioning to a healthier lifestyle and way of eating. Turning towards a whole, natural, plant-based food diet over a few years left me feeling much lighter and clearer in my body, but it didn’t happen overnight! For a start, I had to learn new recipes and re-educate my taste buds while working with other family members who I shared meals with. However, the best way I found to make those positive changes was to truly listen to my body. That meant being still enough to recognise when a food didn’t digest well and also having some insight into what the body actually needs nutritionally to feel truly satisfied and healthy. With beauty products, I noticed that if I used something synthetic after only using natural products, I could taste weird chemicals in my mouth and I really didn’t like that.” On wearing multiple hats and keeping Zen

“Over the last two years, I’ve started a new routine which has been amazing. I now start the day with meditation. It’s often not a long practice but it sets me up to face the day with a more tranquil mindset. Starting the day in this relaxed, meditative fashion helps me keep a sane and enjoyable perspective on the many things happening and needing my attention, whereas previously, the juggle could lead to stress. I also work from home most of the time so that I can follow my own patterns of movement and rest more easily. If I need a break to hop in the sauna or go for a walk, I can do it. I also do yoga at home, which is a basic gentle restorative yoga, often based on the breath and stretching out the limbs that tend to get knotted over the computer. I simply love yoga. I really find that if I look after my well-being in these ways, the work flows much more easily and inspiration is also closer at hand. Of course, it’s not always peace and understanding in my life; it’s a constant journey of learning, often falling and failing, but thank goodness I’m old enough now to know that it, too, will pass!”

On The Organic Skin Co. products she uses every day

“I have my four-palette makeup pods in my bag at all times and my eight-palette in my bathroom. They have everything I need for my makeup and although I like a natural look, I tend to use our makeup every day as I enjoy it and I also know it’s conditioning the skin too! I mainly apply the cream with my fingers, which is super quick and easy to do. On goes the Hide and Seek concealer in Rose Beige, followed by The Eyes Have It cream eyeshadow in Day Dreamer brown, Cheeky Lips in a neutral Spice, and for a bit of glow, I use In The Spotlight Luminizer in Lunar. Followed, of course, by a bit of Black Lash Mascara and I’m done! Putting on these products is a daily ritual for me. I really love the whole slow beauty movement which is all about taking the time to enjoy the aromas of nature these products have and the application process.”

On her skincare and makeup routine when she’s on the go

“I always apply a liberal dose of moisturiser before I travel and take the Task Force Nine cream with me everywhere; I’d be lost without it! On the plane, I apply it to my fingernails and hands to stop them from drying out, and around my nose and on my lips. Because the natural ingredients in The Organic Skin Co.’s makeup have various hydrating, antioxidant and protective properties, I can also wear our makeup on the plane and know that they’re not doing any harm to my skin.”
