A Visceral end
EA, the publisher behind many annual sports titles, as well as the recent Star Wars Battlefront video game tie-ins, has announced its plan to shut down Visceral Games. As a result, the studio’s members will be shuffled around other projects. There is also an unreleased Star Wars game that was being worked on by Visceral Games, which will now be handled by two other studios within EA, specifically EA Worldwide Studios and EA Vancouver. This brings a lot of uncertainty to the nature of the game. Leading the team behind the still-unnamed Star Wars game was Amy Hennig of Naughty Dog and Uncharted fame. Last we heard, EA was still discussing with Hennig about her ‘next move’, but it’s at the very least clear that said Star Wars game will be nothing like what she wanted, if and when it gets released. An EA blog post reads: “Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we will need to pivot the design.” “Lastly, while we had originally expected this game to launch late in our fiscal year 2019, we’re now looking at a new timeframe that we will announce in the future,” the post continues.
