The greatest shot in golf

Golf Asia (Malaysia) - - FOREWORD -

This issue we have a great feature for you. One where prominent tour pros including the likes of Jordan Spieth, Bernhard Langer, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Els and many others, along with analysts and commentators, weigh in on what to them was the impressive, mindboggling golf shot that knocked their socks off.

I have a few of my own that stuck, the first was a shot played by Dame Laura Davies. For the life of me I can’t recall the event, who won it or even where it took place exactly, all I can remember is, it was a tournament. Dame Laura had taken her tee shot and unfortunately, her ball came to rest about 20 metres behind a long line of palm trees on the right of the fairway. For us mere mortals and weekend hackers, the sane route would be to punch it sideways back onto the open fairway but not Dame Laura, she calmly took out an iron, hit a pure shot, curving it around the right of the tree line and landed the golf ball onto the green! Just wow!

The other was a shot I made many years ago, there was no resulting eagle, birdie or par but was no less spectacular! It happened at Pulai Springs Resort in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. After teeing off, my shot landed behind a line of coconut trees. I still had quite a distance to the green, so I took out a 4-iron. I hit a rare sweet and pure shot and my ball flew into a coconut but instead of ricocheting, my golf ball bored right through the fruit, splitting it into half and then landed onto the fairway, which of course left my flight mates in stitches!

So what are your memorable shots?
