Is a hole-in-one, or better yet, the return of the Malaysian Open.
Celebrate Christmas and make a few wishes for your game.
Every year, millions worldwide make Christmas wishes and New Year’s resolutions.
We normally make wishes with the hope for better things to come and for happiness.
Some may wish for a higher paying job, while others dream of that dream home that they have been slogging their whole lives for.
In golf, millions have always wished for a new set of irons or that latest state-of the art driver. For most, like me, we always wish for a hole-in-one.
Personally, apart from not getting a hole-in-one-yet, I’ve enjoyed many achievements.
I have won numerous team events, with the first coming in the MAS Media Team Challenge in 2005. This was followed by the annual Causeway Cup in 2009, when I had the honour of being the first Malaysian captain to win it from our media colleagues from Singapore.
It was an even bigger honour to be appointed as captain again this year. To win it for the second time truly meant a lot to me.
Not because I achieved the double, but it was so touching to see a bunch of media boys playing with so much dedication and national pride.
More than anything, it was an emotional victory for all of us because it was the 10th edition of this endearing meet between journalists of both countries that met at Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club for the first time in 2008 (Malaysia were crushed!).
Journalists who are likely seeing the last days of their profession in the print media due to the digital revolution and the uncertain direction of the global economy.
Apart from the Causeway Cup that now stands in favour of Malaysia at 6 to 4 after our 15-13 victory, I have had other fond achievements.
The most memorable off which was winning the CIMB Classic Pro Am for the Rolex team in 2013.
We had Charley Hoffman as our pro and what a great time we had with one of the coolest guys on the PGA Tour.
So this December, keep practicing and participate in as many tournaments as you can. Who knows, you may just finally make that elusive ace.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
