Drivers fast and furiously long

An aesthetica­lly pleasing camouflage­d design and a high performanc­e clubhead gets top votes.

COBRA F9 SPEEDBACK SPECIAL EDITION CAMO DRIVER

Launched in April in conjunctio­n with the Masters, Cobra’s latest designer driver offers supreme performanc­e and style in one swing. It even comes with a custom Cobra bra x Vessel bag. This custom camo pattern blends the outlines nes of the United States and state ate of Georgia in a layered design ign for a sophistica­ted, fresh look on the course.

The F9 Special Edition tion Camo Driver, which comes omes with a sleek COBRA Camo headcover, is equipped ed with a Project X Even Flow Blue 65g shaft in a one-of-a-kind military green colourway to match the driver (available in extra-stiff and stiff flex in the 9° loft, and in stiff and regular flex in the 10.5° loft).

To round out the look, the driver features a Lamkin Crossline Connect black grip with military green accents.

The King’s Speedback technology combines a highly aerodynami­c clubhead shape with low centre c of gravity to improve im mprove clubhead speed and a create the most efficient e transfer of energy to o the ball.

Then there is the refined CNC Precision Milled Face – rare for a driver – that allows for a thinner and hotter face design that propels ball speed increases of up to 1.5 mph when tested against a traditiona­l, handpolish­ed face.

To create this more aerodynami­c shape, COBRA engineers raised the perimeter skirt, aft (tail) and crown, and rounded the leading edges to reduce drag and increase clubhead speed.

Continuall­y pushing the boundaries of innovation, they also developed golf’s first ultralight carbon wrap crown design that wraps around the body, delivering a 12 percent larger carbon fiber area that saves 10 grams of weight compared to a titanium driver crown.

360 Aero technology utilises lightweigh­t polymer crown trips and titanium sole trips positioned relative to the direction of airflow around the clubhead, further helping to reduce drag.

PWR Ridges frame up alignment and stiffen the carbon crown structure to maximise energy return and power to the ball.

TITLEIST TS4

It is so un-titleist to launch another new driver so soon after two new ones have been released but as exciting as it is, the TS4 driver offers the holy grail of tee-shots to golfers - ie ultra-low spin with much increased speed.

The new TS4, which made its debut at the Valero Texas Open, challenges the notion that a driver designed for extreme spin reduction cannot produce high levels of ball speed.

TS4 merges technologi­es developed through the Titleist Speed Project with a low, forward CG that neutralize­s spin to produce a longer, more piercing ball flight.

“TS drivers have exceeded all our expectatio­ns both on tour and with golfers around the world,” said Josh Talge, Vice President of Marketing, Titleist Golf Clubs. “When it comes to driver performanc­e, TS has shown that it’s no longer a one- or twohorse race.”

“While we know most golfers find their best fit in a TS2 or TS3 driver, there is a percentage of players out there with distinct performanc­e needs, such as aggressive spin reduction,” Talge said. “TS4 is the ultra low-spin driver that still produces exceptiona­l ball speed. If you want to hit it longer but are having trouble controllin­g spin off the tee, TS4 was made for you.”

The innovation­s used to drive ball speed in TS2 and TS3 drivers have been optimised for TS4’S 430cc Speed Chassis, designed to aggressive­ly reduce spin and maximise distance for high-spin players.

The low and forward CG position (5mm forward versus TS2) – highlighte­d by the placement of the Surefit Flatweight– produces ultra-low spin for a piercing ball flight that is straighter and more consistent.

The thinnest cast titanium crown (20 percent thinner than 917 drivers) in the game allows weight to be redistribu­ted low and forward for reduced spin.

The fastest face Titleist has ever made – a refined Radial VFT (variable face thickness) that reduces weight – delivers faster ball speeds and increased forgivenes­s. Every TS driver face undergoes a 100 percent CT inspection to ensure speed performanc­e is at the maximum allowable limit.
