Celebrating five years of wedded bliss, the group operations officer and managing director of Innai and Innai Red are the epitome of style and grace. With a baby on the way, they share their secrets for everlasting love.
How did you know it was real love? II: He inspires me to be better, challenges me to go the distance, and always makes my heart beat just a little faster. ML: I could not stop thinking about her. When she’s not with me, I miss her so much. There was never a specific moment; the moment is pretty much all the time. How did he propose? II: We were late for dinner with friends, so when he gave me this box, I said I’d open it later. After dinner, I opened it and saw a ring box covered in red rose petals. It was so unexpected. Then he asked, “Will you be mine forever?” With tears of joy, I said yes. What ring did you get for Izrin? ML: A customised solitaire ring set with brilliant and princess-cut diamonds. It’s engraved with our initials MARCIZ and engagement date 02/09/07. Wedding theme? II: For the KLGCC reception, the dais had a Moroccan motif backdrop, lamps, and tiled fountains. My bridesmaids wore batik kaftans in shades of plum and deep fuchsia while the groomsmen were clad in black baju melayu. For the Le Meridien reception, it was a minimalist English set-up of fairy lights that lit up the aisle with a white picket arch. I wore a billowy chiffon dress and Marcus a three-piece suit. Tell us about the hantaran. II: I received five trays: A princess-cut diamond pavé wedding band; a BlackBerry; a miniature cho chocolate mosque; a Quran and telekung; and an a pearl jewellery set. I gave Marcus se seven trays: a Damiani wedding band; a TAG Heuer watch; a cake; chocolate dates; a Thomas Pink shirt and necktie; a Black BlackBerry; and cologne. And your Chinese Ch tea ceremony? II: We had that and a soirée after with Marcus’s family at Le Meridien and I wore Innm a red Innai batik cheongsam. It was a
memorable, fun experience, repeating after my mother-in-law and offering tea to my relatives. They said my Cantonese was good. How’s the pregnancy so far? II: I love my cute bump and the royal treatment Marcus has been giving me. What do you love most about Izrin? ML: She’s patient and forgiving. When she laughs its impossible not to laugh with her. She doesn’t pretend to be perfect but works each day to be better than the day before. Oh, and she has her own dance for every song and is giving me the best gift ever, our first son. I know she’ll be a terrific mum. Looking forward to fatherhood? ML: I’m over the moon. I can’t wait to teach him things, play with him, hear his first words. I guess I can only answer this properly once I’m a dad. You have to become one to know how it feels. Where was the babymoon? ML: The Naka in Phuket. We felt like we had the resort to ourselves. The view and the seclusion were just perfect. The secret to making love last? II: Make quality time for each other, laugh heaps, and be forever smitten.
