WHY DON’T YOU...?

From cereal boxes to emoticons, the British designer is inspired by both the ordinary and the extraordinary. Here she reveals how she gets the most fun out of life.

… SAY “YES” RATHER THAN “NO” ? You will open yourself up to opportunities that,

otherwise, would not come your way. … JUST DO IT? This is the advice I give to any budding entrepreneur. If I’d thought too much or knew then what I know now, I might not

have ever started my company. … MIND YOUR MANNERS? I truly believe there is never an excuse for bad behaviour. Say “please”, “thank you”, and don’t be afraid of saying “sorry”.

Life is so much happier for the polite. … GO FOR A MORNING WALK? I find it a wonderful way to start my day. It gears me up for

the day ahead and of course, a good gossip! … SING? It’s so joyful. If I hadn’t been a designer and could sing better, I’d have been an opera singer. My team

gave me opera singing lessons for my last birthday. … KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN? You never

know what will inspire you. My ideas come from everywhere. I’ve even been inspired by a packet of biscuits. … LEARN TO LABEL? My children tell me I have OCD when it comes to this and that I would label them if I could, but I do believe an organised home, desk,

and handbag can make life just a little bit easier. … WRITE A JOURNAL? Devote some time to it every day – even if you’re adding just a word or two. I buy a new diary every year. A beautifully bound

one is wonderful to look back upon. … EXPLORE YOUR CITY? London inspires me

every day. I get so excited when I find something new. … BUILD YOUR OWN HANDBAG? Choose the skin, the lining, and write a cheeky message inside in your handwriting for you or a friend. It seals a moment in time and creates something to treasure.
