SPOTLIGHT ON: Diverse forms of Muslimah fashion. The first museum exhibition on this very topic, ‘Contemporary Muslim Fashions’, talks about the notion of modern-day modest dressing and how such sartorial choices can reflect their identities. In addition to designs from prominent Malaysian labels such as Bernard Chandran, Fiziwoo, and Melinda Looi, the exhibition also traverses different regions to explore interpretations of the hijab such as the one at Yves Saint Laurent Autumn/Winter ’00. Held in Herbst Exhibition Galleries, designed by Iranian-born sisters of Hariri & Hariri Architecture, explore the interplay between the seen and unseen, and the idea of being covered and protected. Until January 6, 2019, at De Young Museum, San Francisco, US. www.deyoung.famsf.org
