Cruise 2019 Report
“My earliest memory isn’t of a boat, but of the sound of a boat,” expressed Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel Cruise ’19. And how else to translate that memory, than with a larger-than-life cruise ship, docked within the nave of the Grand Palais in Paris? A literal translation of the season, sailor stripes and boat motifs called to mind the spirit of les vacances—of Riviera-ready cotton poplins, double-breasted blazer dresses, and crêpe de chine crop tops. Chanel’s cruise ship’s name, La Pausa, was emblazoned across gilded buttons and sweaters, while futuristic PVC kept tweed dresses safe from the rain. The collection’s accessories, like a lifebelt minaudière, also kept things afloat.
