DIOR
Leave it to Maria Grazia Chiuri to approach feminism in the most fantastical and contemporary ways. Referencing Mexican female rodeo riders, the escaramuzas, flamencoesque skirts and fitted jackets were the focal points of Dior Cruise ’19— think “La Adelita” meets Little House on the Prairie. Delicate Chantilly lace—fitting, considering the show’s venue at the Great Stables of the Domaine de Chantilly—offset Revolutionist rubber boots, while ethereal tulles juxtaposed leather corsets. Although the Italian designer’s discourse on strength versus fragility remained a recurring theme, this season stood out for its obvious labour of love. Case in point: the collection’s magical toile de Jouy, which depicted playful tigers and serpents, while tiny wooden beads gussied up tea-stained dresses.
