DESIGN MUSEUM HOLON
A discussion and exploration of design, Design Museum Holon is the result of a 16-year regeneration programme in the city of Holon, just outside Israel’s capital Tel Aviv. The first engaging element is the fluidity that the building presents; tightly woven, curved ribbons of different shades of weathered steel take the viewer on an otherworldly visual journey. Inside, the galleries celebrate the abundance of the Mediterranean sunshine. The ongoing exhibition of the work of Dutch designer Maarten Baas, titled ‘Hide & Seek’ speaks about the boundaries between intellect and feeling, freedom and limitation, as well as the fine line between the truth and a lie. www.dmh.org.il
M+
As the centrepiece of the West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong’s newest museum is dedicated to the celebration of visual arts, design, and architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries. Conceptualised by the visionaries at Herzog & de Meuron, whose stellar portfolio includes the defining Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Tate Modern in London, M+ is set to be a distinctively innovative space for Asian artists. Featuring cinemas, learning centres, médiathèque, as well as an LED façade that doubles as a screen to showcase moving images by artists, M+ is a cultural institution of our time, and a fresh addition to the glittering Hong Kong skyline of skyscrapers. www.westkowloon.hk/mplusbuilding
