Step into Nicolas Ghesquière’s time capsule as he gave Proustian romance a cinematic twist for Louis Vuitton Spring/ Summer ’20. Spliced between stellar dandyesque inspired ensembles (think Art Noveau meets Studio 54), Ghesquière premiered the Video Tape bag which riffed off cult ’90s films, from James Cameron’s The Terminator to Ridley Scott’s Thelma & Louise. Ever the retro-futurist, the creative director looked to sci-fi films, and incorporated plexiglass trimmings and an aluminium exterior to give the season’s must-have an unexpected sci-fi appeal.
