A decade after the release of their previous high jewellery collection, Christian Dior’s favourite flower continues to enchant in the new RoseDior collection.
Sometimes you needn’t look too far for inspiration. Ten years after the launch of the bountiful bouquet that was the Bal des Roses collection, this season sees Victoire de Castellane, Artistic Director of Dior Joaillerie, returning to the late Monsieur Dior’s passion for roses as inspiration for the latest RoseDior high jewellery and high horology collections. The collection displays a keen emphasis on vibrancy and texture, utilising stones the likes of Paraiba tourmalines, pink spinels, rubies, Madagascan sapphires, as well as sparkling yellow diamonds as the colour palette to work from. Interestingly, several pieces are also designed to be more adaptable: one diamond rivière necklace decorated with a ruby flower can be transformed into a bracelet. Elsewhere, another necklace but with gold leaves can be unclipped to serve as a brooch.
Although still naturalistic in design, this time around some of the pieces adopt a more abstract form, anchored by a big, emerald cut diamond placed at the center of the flower. It provides a pleasing juxtaposition, between the big, blocky emerald-cut gem and the seemingly softer petals surrounding, if not protecting, it. Unabashedly ‘extra’, the artistry and sculpting of the Dior Rose are exceptional, befitting a tribute to the mastery and passion of Monsieur Dior.
