Why? The country has been working towards becoming the world’s first to make equal pay for women a necessity. Last year on International Women’s Day, Iceland’s Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson announced his plans: companies with more than 25 employees are required to follow the law by way of undergoing certification and keep to strict pay policies every three years. Speaking of equality, women make up nearly 50 per cent of the Parliament’s seats.
