EDITOR’S NOTE

Home & Decor (Malaysia) - - CONTENTS -

The changing of the months don’t come nearly as dramatically in Malaysia as it might in other less tropical climates, but what a year it has been! It feels like just the blink of an eye, but here we are: December. Christmastime, with the prospect of a brand new year to look forward in just one short month’s time!

As a child, I wished for months on end to see snow in our tropical climate. Christmas then, to me, felt incomplete and somewhat odd without the blanket of snow I was so used to seeing on television. Celebrating in the absence of snow was sort of like Tuesdays, or that odd period of listlessness just before New Year’s Day, or the final hours of any long-holiday weekend. It was Uncanny Valley, and I absolutely did not understand why.

It wasn’t until years later, when I was learned in the science of seasons and wholly immersed in the traditions of my family that I realised our celebrations were perfect as they were. Lots of family time, punctuated with presents and chatter and all the good and hearty cheer the world has to offer. It’s a magical time indeed!

In the spirit of this, we hope the features we’ve put together will help make your Christmas an equally enjoyable celebration. Turn to page 48 for our annual gift guide; and if you’re one for working with your hands, turn to page 54 to find out how ana tomy make their lovely personalised notebooks. Also check out page 42 for decorating tips from Denise Taojo-Kaur of Living DNA, and Wai Yan from Evermore Creative! We’ve also got some smashing recipes from Chef David Caral of Mercat Barcelona Gastrobar with which to feed your family and friends, so do check them out on page 106.

As always, we’ve got a collection of homes to inspire your next home makeover; we hope you’ll enjoy them as we move into this season of giving, friendship, and family!

Happy Christmas, also, friends! Remember: Christmas for us may not be blanketed in pure white snow, but oh, are they a feast of absolutely wonderful colour.
