Born and bred in Malaysia, Germaine is a full time fine artist and practitioner based in Kuala Lumpur. Like many others in their childhood years, she had her start with colour pencils and simple doodles which have since evolved and flourished into brilliant works of art. In her own words, her artistic practice deals with “the ongoing exploration into the elusive bond between social commentary, normatives, the human condition, and transgressional values.” It touches upon that which disturbs identity, system and order in everyday artistic pursuits, layered in a myriad of cultural concepts to break down ideas and issues.
Germaine sees herself as being under the branch of feminist conceptual artists out there. However, she also aims to subvert those expectations, pushing the boundaries to how we produce and consume art. Currently, she has an art studio called “Grey Journal Studios”, where she hosts art talks, workshops, and guerrilla exhibitions. Her art will be exhibited in this year’s Bakat Muda Sezaman 2019 exhibition.
