Acer Switch 5

As mutable notebooks are all the rage, Acer's Switch 5 is a sturdy device that stands out from the crowd. The Switch 5, seen as a contender to Microsoft's Surface Pro, has all the makings to be one of Acer's most powerful portable PCs. It is powered by a 7th generation Intel Core i5-7200U processor, alongside 8GB of LPDDR3 memory. It has a Quad HD (2,160 x 1,440) resolution display, and is pre-installed with Windows 10 Home edition.

The Switch 5 is bundled with a detachable backlit keyboard and Acer Active Stylus, so you get the best bang for your buck. In fact, the keyboard comes with a handy little holder to its side for sliding in the Active Stylus. Touching on design, the 2-in-1 notebook isn't as thin as we thought it would be, though we wouldn't say it's hefty, either. Connectivity-wise, it provides one USB 3.0 port, one USB 3.1 Type-C port, and a microSD card reader, too.

surprisingly loud sound as you flip it back into place, which was rather alarming. Therefore, we recommend putting the kickstand back in place as gentle as possible. The Switch 5 comes equipped with a 1MP front camera and a 2MP autofocus rear camera. With that being said, they both serve their purpose adequately, but don’t expect too much from the image quality. A notable feature of the convertible notebook is that it has Acer’s LiquidLoop cooling system that minimizes noise, hot air emissions, and dust. In other words, sashay away, cooling fan.

Following our usual protocol, we benchmarked the Switch 5 with PCMark 8, PCMark 10, and 3DMark. With PCMark 8's Work Conventional test, the Switch 5 received a score of 2,768. With PCMark 10, the 2-in-1 notebook acquired 2,758. Finally, the Switch 5 scored 360 in 3DMark's Time Spy. In terms of performance, we found that the Switch 5 runs pretty smoothly, and its battery life proves to be sustainable as well.

In a nutshell, Acer's Switch 5 is designed for versatility, and offers a seamless transition from tablet to notebook in mere seconds. We were most certainly pleased during our time with the convertible. The Switch 5 is priced at RM3,999, which is appropriate, considering that it comes with a detachable keyboard and an Active Stylus.

The deckchair hinge can be adjusted at a variety of angles.
