The phrase ‘opposites attract’ could not be more accurate when it comes to the love story of Hafez M Hashim and the beautiful Nur Liyana Taff. The more reserved Liyana complements Hafez’s outgoing personality and together they make a perfect couple.

Having known each other for 10 years as Hafez was a friend of Liyana’s sister, it was only in 2012 when the pair got closer. After a year with Liyana, Hafez knew she was the one. “He proposed to me on my birthday. We were walking around a shopping mall in Singapore and he said he had to go to the toilet. Turns out, he went to Tiffany to get a ring and luckily it was the perfect size! The following week, he brought my

parents out for dinner to ask for my hand in marriage while I was away on a work trip. I thought it was really sweet,” Liyana tells us as she recalls the events leading up to her engagement.

When she finally walked down the aisle, she was filled with a rush of emotions, feeling both excited and nervous at the same time. She looked gorgeous in an Alia Bastamam lace wedding dress while Hafez fit the role of her prince charming wearing Radzuan Radziwill. Everything from the decor and ambience to the food was perfect. Chosen for its generous size, the Grand Lagoon Ballroom of Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa was beautifully decorated with ribbon-like drapes that hung from the ceiling and classy tableware which contrasted well against the chic black tablecloth. The guests of honour at the reception included the Sultan of Selangor, HRH Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as well as the now Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak together with his consort Tuanku Zara

Salim Davidson. The father and mother of the groom, Datuk Seri Razman and Datin Seri Latiffah Kamarudin together with the bride’s parents, Shahryir Ahmad Taff and Rina Abdullah, warmly greeted their guests as they entered the vast wedding hall.

During dinner, a video clip put together by one of the couple’s friends brought a wave of laughter as it detailed the story of how the gregarious Hafez and the studious Liyana met. However, the highlight of the night was when Datuk Seri Razman and his youngest daughter Melissa Hashim serenaded the room during the cake-cutting ceremony with a lovely song for the newlyweds.
